Vietnamese Health Market Research

Introduction

Since 1986, the Doi Moi policy has been implemented in Vietnam, promoting the market economy and opening up to the outside world. This has led to rapid economic growth, improved living standards, and increased foreign investment in Vietnam. Specifically, Vietnam's nominal GDP per capita increased from 430.2 USD in 1986 to 4,163.5 USD in 2022 [1]. With this 9.7-fold increase, Vietnam has transitioned from a poor country to a lower-middle-income country and aims to achieve upper-middle-income status by 2025 [2]. Along with improved living standards, many Vietnamese prioritize their health, pay more attention to disease prevention, and spend money on higher-quality healthcare.

However, several significant issues remain. Notable examples include the rise in aging, age-related diseases, and diseases caused by environmental pollution. Vietnam is already an aging society and one of the fastest-aging countries in the world. The number of elderly people aged 65 and above in Vietnam was 8.16 million in 2021, and it is predicted to increase to 25.20 million by 2069. Despite this, each elderly person still suffers from at least 3 to 4 chronic diseases, such as hypertension, diabetes, and insomnia [3]. Additionally, diseases caused by environmental pollution and poor lifestyle habits, such as respiratory diseases, heart diseases, obesity, and dyslipidemia, are becoming more common among younger populations, impacting work performance and living standards. This places a significant burden on the nation's health protection, care, and welfare systems - which are still slow-growing, and adversely affects overall economic growth.
